Photo Ready Preparation
We want you and your home to be as prepared as possible for your impending photo shoot. We’ll discuss the plan with you first so that we’re well briefed to assist the photographers on the day. At the preplanned day/time, we’ll meet the photographer at your home to show them around and highlight both your favourite features of your property and what we believe will shoot best.
You may wish to use this guide to help you prepare.
Things to consider before the day of the shoot
- Please give us a non-occupied space to work with if possible. This will ensure that the team can do
- the job efficiently and create better photos for you.
- Please de-clutter spaces and surfaces. Put away toys, clothing, dishes, towels, shoes etc.
- Put away all rubbish bins, wind in hoses, garden tools & bikes. Move trailers.
- If there is a pool or spa, please clean and leave uncovered.
- Hide all pet beds, toys and food/water bowls.
- Please clean windows – they look much better in photographs.
- Every home is different and therefore time varies. The shoot will take at least 1 hour but may take up to 4 hours. Sunset shoots mean we stay until the sun has gone down. Google “golden hour photography” to understand the benefits of shooting at this time or “sunset timing in your location” if you want to know the exact time for your date.
Weather on the day
Weather can have a huge impact on the final images. It’s not always possible to fly drones and take videoif raining/stormy. Photographers do provide a service called “sky replace”, which means replacing a greysky with a blue sky with clouds. If the weather is inclement but not disastrous, they can often improvise,if not, we’ll consult with you and the photographers to reschedule.
Before the photographer arrives, please
- Turn on all lights
- Light fireplace, candles if you have them
- Open all blinds, shutters, shades and curtains
- Remove dogs from the home
- Clear all cars from the driveway and the street in front of your home (if they are yours).
- Mow the lawn within 24 hours of the shoot for a neat fresh look
FAQ’S
Can I stay at the property during the photography session?
We recommend homeowners leave during the session to avoid disruptions. This helps the photographer work more efficiently and keeps the process stress-free. For high-end twilight or sunset shoots, no one should be present – movement in and out of the property will show up in the photos.
Once the photographer arrives, they’ll do a quick 10-minute walk-through, then begin shooting the homeas it is. Any delays may require a return visit, and an additional call-out fee may apply.
How should I prepare my property on the day?
Make sure the home is spotless, clutter-free, and well lit. Open all curtains and blinds to maximise natural light, and turn on interior lights. Remove personal items and minimise distractions.
How do I make the exterior look its best?
First impressions matter. Mow the lawns, tidy gardens, clear paths and remove rubbish or debris. Add fresh flowers or potted plants where possible. Ensure no vehicles are parked in front of the home.
What if we have pets?
Pets can distract during a shoot, and buyers may be put off if there are signs of them. Please remove dogs from the property (if possible), along with pet food, bowls, and beds (put in a cupboard).
How can I highlight my home’s unique features?
A short walk-through with the photographer – usually with us – is recommended. Point out any key selling features you’d like emphasised in the photos.
Should I remove personal items?
Yes. Hide or remove family photos and personal memorabilia. This helps create a neutral space so buyers can picture themselves living in the home.
What if it’s raining on the day?
We keep a close eye on forecasts, but the weather is unpredictable. If conditions aren’t suitable, we may reschedule. In some cases, we’ll go ahead and use editing to enhance the results – but please be aware that rescheduling may sometimes be necessary.
How long will it take to receive the photos?
Typically photos are ready 2 days after shooting (depending on the amount), we will go through the photos with you to pick those that best showcase your property for the listing and marketing.
